Think twice to avoid a DUI charge

For many individuals in Shalimar, the end of the year means holiday season and spending time with loved ones. Some of these individuals may drink more than they usually do as they hang out with their friends and go to family gatherings. This is a primary reason why the number DUI arrests tend to spike at the end of the year.

If you plan to drink socially this season, be sure to leave the driving to someone else. If you do not, you could unintentionally hurt or kill someone else, damage property and wind up in jail with a DUI conviction on your record. Damages from a DUI conviction are not easy to get rid of or minimize, but you can use the following advice on how to avoid one.

Watch the company you keep

Good friends do not allow their colleagues to drink and drive. Surround yourself with people who value their lives, freedom and clean backgrounds just as much as you do.

Get a ride

Driving is convenient, but when you become intoxicated, it can be extremely dangerous. Ask a friend to be a designated driver. Carpool or use an Uber or Lyft driver to get you back and forth around town, so you do not have to worry about driving while intoxicated or impaired.

Monitor the amount you drink

No matter how much fun you plan to have, be mindful of how much alcohol you consume. Avoid drinking excessively and pay close attention to the way you feel. Eat before you drink so less alcohol is absorbed into your bloodstream and allow a sufficient length of time to pass for the effects of intoxication for each drink you have to wear off.

Of course, the best way to avoid a DUI is to not drink at all. If you are currently facing a DUI charge, consider speaking to an attorney for guidance on the matter.
